Apparently sales of artificial grass have been rocketing this year as a result of the low rainfall. I am totally stumped for words. How can anyone think that installing artificial grass in a garden is a good alternative for a lawn?
It may not need mowing, but surely you still have to clean it.?
I’m not a big fan of neat lawns myself, but where I might have a lawn I have wild areas and borders full of a wide range of plants to increase the biodiversity in my garden.
Imagine if everyone replaced their real lawn with artificial grass, what an environmental disaster that would be. What about the insects that live in a lawn, the bees that collect the pollen from the grasses and the part that grasses play in the ecosystem?
I think it is as bad as concreting over the garden.
If you don’t want the hassle of mowing then buy a house without a garden or move to a flat, or better still employ someone to do it for you. Of course there are places and instances where you might want a small area of artificial grass, a greengrocers for example, but in my opinion it has no place in a garden.
