The bees are a constant source of surprise and delight. I have two long hives, one a division of the other and both colonies have survived the winter with no intervention, no additional feeding and just a little extra insulation to keep the heat in. Read more…

I guess you can tell from the title that my bees have made it so far. It’s too early to party but inwardly I am ecstatic. It’s been flippin cold up here dropping to -16C at some points at night and although they can handle the cold they expend a lot of energy keeping the nest warm. Read more…
