I’ve been out and about a bit this last week or so and one of places I visited was Barrington Court in Somerset.
It’s a National Trust Property and over the first weekend of October it hosted its second annual Chutfest and I managed to be there.
The idea is that people with loads of jam and chutney can hire a small space at the festival (for a peppercorn fee) and sell their jam and chutney or swap it with other small-scale producers.
But you can also visit with your own stash of jam or chutney and swap with willing participants, so that your excess of one sort becomes a cornucopia of a range of summer bounties.
It was great fun and I came home with jars of preserves, chutneys and jam to fill the cupboards.
Trouble is I forgot to take some of my produce so now it really is jam today and jam tomorrow!
We also had the chance to look around the kitchen garden, which despite the recent deluge of rain was looking remarkably good.
I bought an apple tree (Beauty of Bath) and a new rosemary bush as mine had died off in the hard winter, so that’s another planting project for the next week or so.
