If there’s one thing that drives me mad in the garden and greenhouse it’s green algae. I know it’s part of the environment, but I do resent the way it covers clean surfaces with its green coating.
It is pretty amazing really, but in the greenhouse it’s unsightly and it blocks the light flow through the glass.
Getting rid of it can be tricky, but last year I tried a product called Clearway Algae and Mould Cleaner.
I don’t know what’s in it and I guess that’s a trade secret, but it’s non-chemical and it works.
I had brilliant results on my chicken houses last year, I sprayed half an ark with Clearway and left the other half unsprayed and within about a week or so the sprayed half had returned to its lovely wood finish.
Amazing.
I tried it out in the greenhouse and it took a bit longer to work, but I’m so impressed it is my Algae buster of choice for inside my greenhouse.
So armed with a sprayer of diluted concentrate I have sprayed and treated the greenhouse glass, the algaed pots, the frame and anything else with a hint of green.
The great thing about this stuff is that it also protects surfaces from further growth for up to 6 months, so if you use it twice a year (which I didn’t) you won’t have to spend the time treating your greenhouse when you could be sowing and growing.
It’s also harmless to pets and plants. It’s another product from my friends at Green Gardener (www.greengardener.co.uk), who also offer a dawn to dusk helpline for gardeners.
