I’ve been really trying this week to make some progress in the greenhouse. So I spent a few hours sorting out the plants that are going to be spending their winter within the greenhouse environment.
They aren’t all slightly tender, in fact there are a fair few that are positively hardy, but will fare better if protected from feet of snow, or extreme cold, plus there are a whole hoard of cuttings that although rooted still haven’t been planted outside.
I was pleasantly surprised at the array of colour in the greenhouse at the moment and it’s not just from the bright flowers that are still blossoming on a range of perennials such as my species pelargoniums, some zonal pelargoniums given to me by a friend, Streptocarpus flowers and my rich blue agapanthus that are also still flowering.
Some of the leaves inside the greenhouse have taken on stunning autumn hues.
The new peach (which I haven’t potted up yet!) has got peachy orange foliage that looks stunning in the autumn light, and even the zonal pelargoniums have rich splashes of red on their leaves.
It’s simply beautiful in there.
And outside it’s all looking pretty peachy. The autumn leaves have taken on some stunning tones and look fantastic. It’s my favourite time of year but I prefer them on the trees rather than on the ground as once they have fallen it’s a slippery slope to winter.
