There are pots of rooted cuttings in the greenhouse and cold frames at the moment, some of which are so well rooted that they are almost overcrowded.
I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful autumn light and sunshine to pot a few of them up into fresh new pots of loamy compost so that they are ready to plant out in the spring.
It means they will take up more room in the cold frame and maybe that’s a bad thing, but it’s also very satisfying to see how many new plants I have created from practically nothing.
I’ve got masses of bee plants such as lavender, nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ and Teuchrium all ready for my bees next spring and maybe if I force a few into early flower they will be a welcome source of pollen and nectar for my buzzy friends.
I still don’t really know if the little buzzers have a queen or not, but I’ll have to be patient now and wait until spring. They’ve been fairly active on sunny days, but have definitely hunkered down in the colder weather.
The rest of the cuttings, including my coloured cornus cuttings will stay in their Root Trainers and modules until I plant them out or pot them up in the spring.
