One of the gardens I’ve written about recently is the walled garden at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. It’s a stunning collection of flowers and fruit that are representative of the era of Queen Victoria.
Many of the varieties have been named after the former Monarch, while others pay homage to her reign. Not only is it beautifully laid out and planted but it’s a fascinating collection of plants too.
There are some lovely touches including several clumps of a squat, wide Rhubarb ‘Victoria’ and a taller more elegant variety called ‘Prince Albert’. A coincidence? You draw your own conclusions.
If you’re a member of the RHS you can read all about it in this month’s issue of The Garden. But for the best effect, take a trip over on the ferry and visit, it’s a delight.
