One of my greenhouses is an old aluminium one, and its gone green!
That’s not to say it is now eco friendly, but that the framework on some areas inside the greenhouse is now thick with green algae. My pretty terracotta pots of crocus are also sporting a green cloak, which looks quite nice but could get out of hand fast.
It’s not as if there isn’t loads of other things that need doing, but it looks so unsightly and has taken hold so quickly that I really fear if I don’t act fast the whole thing will disappear under a phagocytositic attack of a blanket of algae.
The glass is looking pretty green too so I need to employ something that will blast the lot.
I normally use Armillatox on the greenhouse, you just wet it and forget it, but I have to admit that it pongs a lot and all my clothes end up smelling of it.
Last year I tried Clearway Algae and Mould Cleaner from Green Gardener. (www.greengardener.co.uk)
It’s a non-chemical treatment for algae and mould that removes algal growth and mould and once clean will protect surfaces from further growth for at least 6 months.
It didn’t work straight away, but when it did the results were remarkable.
