There’s a lot happening in the garden at the moment. Every spare hour is spent weeding the existing flowerbeds, planting out hardy plants and preparing the raised beds for the vegetables that are currently surging into growth in the greenhouse.
The cold frame has been stacked out with pots and pots of herbs. They are ready to plant out, but I’ve been waiting for a tiered herb bed from Forest Garden (www.forestgarden.co.uk) to be ready.
Martin finally finished putting it together last week and we filled it with Organic Vegetable Growing Compost from Westland Horticulture (www.gardenhealth.co.uk). It’s right on the corner of the patio against a hedge and because it’s tiered it presents the plants beautifully.
I’ve planted a wide range of culinary herbs plus a few extra perennials that the bees will find interesting such as some sedums. It needs to grow on a bit until it fills out, but I am really pleased with the effect. Plus it’s cleared some room in the cold frame for the runner beans I’ve been growing in the greenhouse. I think it’s still a bit cold to put them into the cold frame, but the weather is due to improve, so another few days may make all the difference.
