More Resolutions

6th January, 2011 - 9:28am

2011I’m not especially good at keeping to New Year Resolutions, though like most people, I suppose, I do mean to. I’ve been thinking hard about how to get more from my garden and greenhouse for the season ahead and how to fit it in around my eclectic work schedule.

Early in the greenhouse season always starts off well, I get lots and lots of seeds sown, germinated and then the flower shows start and I am lured away by days of work at the RHS shows.
I’m not complaining, of course not, but it does mean that I am absent at crucial points in the greenhouse calendar.

But I’m not going to let that put me off, this year I plan to start sowing much earlier and to get better organised so that the plants can fend for themselves with the help of a little technology.
I need to be less reliant on my elderly neighbour, who though happy to step in and look after the greenhouse, doesn’t need the extra work.

The plan is to grow more fruit, to replace my fox eaten hens and to get my bees happy and healthy as soon as possible.

I want to be self sufficient in as much produce as possible this year and to freeze and preserve even more than last year so that the winter stores will sustain us through whatever winter weather next year brings.
