Managed to get out into the garden for a few hours today and weeded the asparagus bed. It wasn’t too weedy but a couple of creeping buttercups had crept in and if you don’t get them out at this time of year they will totally take over.

This is the second year of my asparagus and so I can’t harvest any spears this year. I planted about 20 crowns and also some plug plants last spring to see whether the plugs caught up. It’s certainly a cheaper way to buy them, but the jury is still out.

Saturdays Telegraph had one of my articles in the Gardening Section. I was given an old shed, which was in remarkably good shape and decided to make it into a Eco project using as many recycled, eco friendly and alternative products as possible. It became a bit of a mammoth project but the resulting shed looks great and the roof especially, creates some wonderful habitat and good food sources for wildlife. You can read it online here:

Sunday Feb 21st

It was much colder today, with a bit of snow threatening so I spent a few hours in the greenhouse. Sowed a new batch of broad beans, I like to harvest the leaves for salad and stir fries at this time of year, so I grow plenty for this purpose. Had a tidy up and checked on the cuttings and more tender plants that have been overwintering. Seems I’ve lost a few dahlias, which is a shame, but the rest seem OK.
